Islamic Perspective on Unity in Diversity

This online course with a certificate is a recording of a three day programme named “Unity in Diversity” with a duration of approximately 16 hours that is presented by Sheikh Nuruddin Lemu and Dr. Maszlee Malik. The purpose of this programme is to elucidate on how Islam celebrates diversity and harmony, the Fiqh itself lead us to difference of opinion whether on the topic of Ibadah or on more general issues and how to reconcile when there are clashing opinions. This is especially relevant in Malaysia since we are made multi-ethnic and multi-racial community and difference of opinion are common in our daily lives.

Introduction

Malaysia is a country with multi-ethnic and multi-racial groups. Clashing opinion and different thought are common when we are living in such societies due to the various backgrounds of its citizens. Therefore, an effort must be made in order to teach Malaysians the correct way of handling different opinions among ourselves in order to prevent conflict. This video serves as a general guideline for Muslim on how scholars of the old days differs on a certain matters yet still manage to be in harmony with each other. We Malaysians can learn from these scholars and their attitude, when they are faced with people who do not share the same opinion.

Objective

Expose the society to various different opinions and methodologies of various Muslim scholars when trying to legislate a fatwa.
Providing a general guideline for Muslim on how to handle differences in opinion.
Allowing us Malaysians to be more tolerant with each other and ensuring harmony.

  3. Definition of Maqasid Shariah.
  4. How Maqasid Shariah plays a role in multi-ethnic society in keeping the harmony among its citizens.
